About the newsletter:
I will send out an update every day at lunchtime while I am covering the CZU Complex Fire on Twitter. It will contain updates from the past 24 hours and information in a format that will be easier to read than my Twitter feed.
1 email per day, should go out between 11am and noon California time, and it will end when the disaster situation is effectively over.
For real-time updates please follow me on Twitter.
La mayoria de informacion sera en ingles pero sera informacion y recursos en español tambien, gracias a mis aydantes hispanohablantes.
Why I’m credible:
I’m a native Californian and I have had close family members living in Ben Lomond for over 25 years, and I also lived there full time in 2015 and 2016. I know and love the community. I’ve volunteered at the animal shelter, Mountain Feed is my favorite non-bookstore retail establishment, and I wrote most of my dissertation in the UCSC library.
I have a PhD from Cal, where I wrote my dissertation on climate-related disasters. I have studied climate change since 1998 and I have been working in disaster scholarship since 2010.
I have extensive experience collecting both on-the-ground information and geospatial data to understand disasters and other forms of rapid environmental change in California and elsewhere.
Disclaimers:
I’m not a professional journalist, I’m a professional nerd.
